Claudia Kauffman, a member of the Nez Perce Tribe of Idaho, is leading in the race for the 47th district of the Washington State Senate.
According to the Associated Press, Kauffman had 53 percent of the vote. Republican Mike Riley ha 47 percent.
Kauffman had the endorsement of Seattle's two major papers. She currently serves as the intergovernmental affairs liaison for the Muckleshoot Tribe in Washington.
