Dead Indian Lake in Oklahoma given new name

The Dead Indian Lake near Cheyenne, Oklahoma, has a new name: Dead Warrior Lake.

The U.S. Board on Geographic Names voted to officially rename the lake after years of complaints from tribal members. But some residents refuse to recognize the new name.

The lake was built in the 1950s and was named for Dead Indian Creek. A Cheyenne burial site is located near the site of a Cheyenne winter camp.
