Abramoff Scandal
Rep. Doolittle asked Abramoff about job for wife

A newly disclosed e-mail shows Rep. John Doolittle (R-California) wanted convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff to give his wife a job.

The Congressman is referred to as "JTD" in the e-mail. "JTD" wanted his wife, Julie, to work for a non-profit group started by Abramoff.

"JTD knows of the group and would like to talk to you about it," the 2000 e-mail to Abramoff stated.

Federal prosecutors are looking at the activities of Julia Doolittle, according to news reports. She ran a firm that raised funds for Abramoff and she got a cut out of the money she raised for her husband.

As for Doolittle, he acted in ways to benefit Abramoff's clients. In 1988, he inserted comments into the Congressional record that praised the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, a gaming tribe. Doolittle opposes all forms of gaming.
