The Fort McDowell Yavapai Nation of Arizona pledged $1 million to the National Congress of American Indians for the tribal embassy in Washington, D.C.
Tribal President Raphael Bear and tribal leaders announced the donation at the NCAI annual conference in Sacramento. The tribe presented a resolution authorizing a $200,000 donation every year for five years to the NCAI board.
NCAI is raising $12 million to buy a permanent home in Washington. So far, $2.5 million has been raised in hopes of making a down payment.
