Six ordered to repay Standing Rock Sioux Tribe

Six people have been ordered to make restitution to the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe for stealing money from a trust fund.

The defendants were officials of the Running Antelope District on the reservation. They pleaded guilty to embezzlement and theft for taking nearly $100,000 from a Missouri River trust fund.

The account was set up to compensate the tribe for lost land. The tribe draws money from interest earned on the $90.6 million account.

The six defendants were ordered to pay thousands of dollars in restitution and were sentenced to probation. Three others await sentencing after pleading guilty. Another person was convicted after going to trial.
