A federal jury will begin deliberating the fate of three former Standing Rock Sioux officials who are accused of stealing $169,000 from the tribe and lying about it.
Rinissa Fitzpatrick, Terrance Yellow Fat and Marcia Brave Thunder sat on the tribe's Long Soldier District Business-Planning Commission. They are alleged to have submitted fraudulent agreements for work they didn't perform.
In closing arguments, attorneys representing the three defendants said federal prosecutors failed to make their case.
