Subsistence board rejects fishery for Ninilchik Tribe

The Federal Subsistence Board made its first major decision under new chairman Mike Fleagle.

The board rejected a fishery sought by the Ninilchik Tribe. Fleagle, an Inupiat appointed by Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne, cast the deciding vote against the proposal, The Anchorage Daily News reported.

The tribe wanted a quota of 500 silver salmon but non-Natives opposed the request. Fleagle said there wasn't enough time for public comment.
