House committee to hold field hearing on languages


The House Committee on Education & the Workforce is holding a field hearing on Native languages in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on Thursday.

The Recovery and Preservation of Native American Languages hearing takes place at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center. It will be chaired by Rep. Howard P. �Buck� McKeon (R-California).

Other members of the committee, including Rep. Tom Udall (D-New Mexico) and Rep. Heather Wilson (R-New Mexico) are scheduled to attend.

The committee will take testimony from the following witnesses:
Dr. Carol Cornelius, Program Director, Oneida Language Revitalization Program, Wisconsin

Sam Montoya, Language & Cultural Resources Administrator, Pueblo of Sandia

Amadeo Shije, Chairman, All Indian Pueblos Council

Dr. Christine Sims, Assistant Professor, University of New Mexico

Kimberly Tabahe, Student, Window Rock High School

Ryan Wilson, President, National Indian Education Association
The hearing starts at 2:30pm. The IPCC is located at 2401 12th Street NW.
