Fry bread a staple at upcoming powwow in Baltimore

You won't have a hard time finding fry bread at the upcoming Baltimore Powwow in Maryland this weekend.

Clark "Little Bear" Oxendine of Oxendine Catering and Sherry Haber of Dosha Native Foods will be selling the staple at the event. They have their own methods for creating what has been revered as an icon and as a curse in Indian Country.

"Everybody's fry bread is a little different," Oxendine told The Baltimore Sun.

Fry bread has been linked to high rates of obesity and diabetes. Activist Suzan Shown Harjo has called for its death but others say it won't be going away and can be enjoyed in moderation.
