A new book encourages tourists to stay home in Arizona and visit the state's tribal communities.
Anne O'Brien, author of "Traveling Indian Arizona," says tourists can learn a lot from tribal cultures. She devotes a section in the book to each of the 21 reservations in the state.
"One of the advantages of having native cultures so close to us is that we have people and languages and philosophies right here that are very different from what we think of as the dominant way of seeing things," she tells The Arizona Daily Star.
Arizona tribes are making tourism a big part of their economies. In addition to casinos, they are building hotels, golf resorts and entertainment venues.
