Oklahoma tribes discuss tobacco compacts
Friday, June 2, 2006

Oklahoma's tribal tobacco compact was the subject of a discussion at the Sovereignty Symposium in Oklahoma City.

Tribal leaders on the panel said the compact isn't working. They said the state needs to work directly with tribes to address taxation issues.

Most of the state's tribes want to negotiate a new deal in order to help the state meet revenue projections. Gov. Brad Henry (D) said he is open to talks.
