Nine Indians in running for South Dakota primary


A record nine American Indians are seeking seats in the South Dakota Legislature, Indian Country Today reports.

The candidates are:
* Incumbent Sen. Theresa Two Bulls, Oglala Sioux
* Incumbent Rep. Thomas Van Norman, Cheyenne River Sioux
* Incumbent Rep. Jim Bradford, Oglala Sioux
* Charon Asetoyer, Comanche
* Faith Spotted Eagle, Yankton Sioux
* Gary Loudner, Crow Creek Sioux
* Paula Long Fox, Rosebud Sicangu
* Steve Emery, Cheyenne River Sioux
* Maxine Broken Nose, Oglala Sioux

The primary is June 6.
