Leech Lake leaders don't want to banish convict

Leaders on the Leech Lake Ojibwe Reservation in Minnesota have voted against banishing a tribal member who was convicted of second-degree murder.

Leech Lake Chairman George Goggleye Jr. has proposed banishment as a way to reduce violent crime on the reservation. But the local Indian Councils said they didn't have enough information to move forward.

The tribe was recently informed that Wakinyon Wakan McArthur, 27, is being placed on supervised release from his second-degree murder sentence. McArthur is said to be one of the key leaders of the Native Mob gang.
