Public schools on reservations in South Dakota see a high number of transfers, The Sioux Falls Argus Leader reports.
Many of the transfers are sports-related. Of the three public schools with the most incoming sports-related transfers since 1998, two are on reservations. Two more reservation schools saw a large number of incoming and outgoing sports-related transfers.
A teacher at Pine Ridge High School said not all transfer are related to sports. He said Indian students of change schools due to economic or family situations.
South Dakota has open enrollment at public schools.
