Harvard student from Leech Lake killed in Minneapolis

Duane Meat, a 24-year-old Harvard University student from the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe, was killed in south Minneapolis in what police say was a graffiti-related incident.

Police say Meat and another man spray painted graffiti on a house. A confrontation with a 17-year-old gang member who was in the house resulted in the shooting of Meat, who is not believed to have involved in gang.

The 17-year-old is now charged with second degree murder, second degree assault and felony possession of a pistol.

Meat was taking the semester off from Harvard. He was remembered at the school's powwow over the weekend.
