A 24-year-old woman and her 43-year-old common-law husband have been charged in connection with the death of Phoenix Victoria Sinclair, the woman's five-year-old daughter.
Samantha Dawn Kematch is charged with assault with a weapon, aggravated assault, forcible confinement and failing to provide the necessities of life. Karl Wesley McKay is charged with second-degree murder.
Sinclair was considered missing for nine months because the province's social services agency lost track of her. She was living on the Fisher River First Nation in Manitoba. Her body has yet to be recovered but the Royal Canadian Mounted Police say they have new evidence.
