Ontario's chief coroner called an inquest to investigate the deaths of two inmates at a jail facility on the Kashechewan First Nation.

Two men died after a fire broke out at the dilapidated facility. Critics said the incident could have been prevented if the government had replaced the jail.

According to the Canadian Press, the jail had no fire alarms or fire suppression systems. Padlocks and chains had to be used because the locks on the cell doors didn't work.

The two men were identified as Ricardo Wesley and Jamie Goodwyn, both in their 20s. Goodwyn was a nephew of the chief's wife, the CP reported.
