Eastern Cherokee man leaves top New Mexico post


Billy Sparks, a member of the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians and the public voice of New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson (D), is leaving his high-profile job on February 1.

Sparks said he was leaving to pursue his music and to spend more time with his six-year-old son. He said his four years working for Richardson were exciting.

Richardson, a former member of Congress and former Clinton administration Cabinet official, appointed a record number of American Indian to posts in the state.
