The police department in Escondido, California, is sending about 20 officers to maintain law and order at the general council meeting of the San Pasqual Band of Mission Indians this Sunday.
An altercation broke out the last time the tribe met in July 2005. One elderly woman suffered a head injury and another elderly woman required attention for a heart condition, The North County Times reported.
The tribe has been in turmoil due to a membership dispute. Some say tribal leaders aren't enrolling new members in order to restrict per capita payments from the tribe's casino.
The meeting is taking place off the reservation in Escondido.
