Opinion: Tribes, state to combat meth problem

"Last week, the Tribal Leaders Conference brought the tribal communities of our state together. The enclave focused on the strong interdependence of the Indian culture and how as a people, we have the strength to bring about real change. It is that empowerment that bonds us together and forges a positive future for our children. Methamphetamine is the enemy of our future, and we must all fight to protect the gift of our children.

We have to fight this battle together as individuals. There is a place in all this for state government and for our tribes. But the solutions must and will come from each one of us. But most of all, hug your children. Go home and hug your niece, your nephew, your whole family. Sit down and talk to them. Watch television together with them and when a Montana Meth Project ad comes on, ask them what it means to them. Then ask them if they think meth is bad. You will be surprised by how much they know and understand."
