Morongo Band to make largest turkey donation

The Morongo Band of Mission Indians continues its Thanksgiving tradition this year by donating 6,000 turkeys to nonprofits in southern California.

The tribe began donating the turkeys yesterday and will make deliveries all week in order to provide food for 30,000 meals. The effort is being called the largest Thanksgiving turkey donation in the state.

"The Morongo tribe has been delivering Thanksgiving food from our family to families in need throughout California for nearly 20 years," said Joletta Tsosie, Morongo Outreach Committee chairperson and a tribal council member. "We started out by helping a few families and now it has grown to serve thousands.

About 40 nonprofits will receive the turkeys.
