The Mechoopda Tribe and Chico State University will sign an agreement today that formalizes their relationship.
Before losing their rancheria to termination, the Mechoopdas lived on land that is now part of the Chico campus. Villages and burial grounds are known to exist on the campus. A tribal cemetery is located across from a new dorm development.
The agreement governs how the tribe and the university will work together to protect, preserve and manage cultural resources that may be identified on campus.
