Pine Ridge president disputes latest complaint

Cecilia Fire Thunder, the first woman president of the Oglala Sioux Tribe of South Dakota, is waging a public campaign against a complaint that seeks her ouster.

Fire Thunder will meet with reporters on Thursday, October 20, to discuss a complaint that challenges her enrollment, a $38 million loan she secured and her treatment of tribal elders. She already issued a statement defending her record.

The tribal council is set to take up the complaint next Tuesday, October 25. William Birdnecklace Tate, a former tribal employee, says Fire Thunder is jeopardizing the tribe and overstepping her boundaries.
