"It's an old wheeze that the Bureau of Indian Affairs was advised by General Custer as he rode out of the fort not to do anything until he returned from the Little Big Horn. Not true.
There's plenty of paperwork to prove the BIA was active. So much, in fact, that someone is tossing it out.
The Interior Department and the National Archives are trading denials that either was responsible for filling some trash bins with what appears to be documents of interest to U.S. tribes. The discovery came to light on Sept. 1, when Archives staff noticed federal records in one of the trash bins behind the National Archives Building near the Capitol in Washington."
