Tribal members in Minnesota can now use their tribal identification cards to register to vote on election days, The Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
The state was imposing limits on the use of tribal IDs at the polls. Tribal members weren't being allowed to register if they didn't live on a reservation or if the ID didn't include a home address.
In response, the American Civil Liberties Union of Minnesota, the National Congress of American Indians and tribal members sued the state. An agreement reached between the parties settles the lawsuit.
