The Crow Creek Sioux Tribe of South Dakota is ready to welcome students back to school, five months after a fire destroyed the tribal school dormitory and dining hall.
The tribe brought in 23 modular units to house an estimated 200 students at the Crow Creek Tribal School. The rooms are ready in time for classes that begin today.
The replacement dorm cost around 2.4 million to $2.7 million. The tribe had to come up with most of the money although the Bureau of Indian Affairs contributed $1.3 million. The school is ninth on the BIA's priority construction list.
