The Nez Perce Tribe of Idaho has purchased 962 acres in Oregon that were part of the homelands of Chief Joseph.
The tribe paid a total of $278,865 for the land. It is located in along Joseph Creek in Wallowa County, where the Chief Joseph Band made its home before attempting to flee to Canada in 1877.
The purchase adds to the 10,300-acre ranch that the tribe bought in 1997.
