Indian lawmakers find it hard to get bills passed

Eight Indians serve in Montana's Legislature but they are finding it hard to get their bills passed.

In the House, the six Indian lawmakers only had a 27 percent success record. In contrast, the 94 white lawmakers had a 45 percent success rate.

In the Senate, the picture looked better. The two Indian lawmakers had a 54 percent success rate compared to a 48 percent rate for the 48 white lawmakers.

When asked to comment about their success rate, Indian lawmakers weren't sure if race had anything to do with it. One Democrat lawmaker said Republicans are responsible for killing her bills.
