Native corporation president charged with assaults

Jacob Adams, the president of Arctic Slope Regional Corp., was arrested and charged with two criminal misdemeanor charges of assault after scuffling with police whom he says were trying to hurt his teenage son.

Adams, 58, went to the North Slope police station to pick up his son, who had been arrested on intoxication charges. As "H.A." was being released, he said an officer put his son in a chokehold.

Adams went to protect his son, he said. But a scuffle ensued, and the officers claim Adams struck them, sending one to the hospital for treatment. The officers pepper-sprayed Adams.

Adams pleaded not guilty to the charges.
