The Interior Board of Indian Appeals has ruled in a long-running dispute over the leadership of the Timbisha Shoshone Tribe of California.
In a June 1 decision, the board ordered the Bureau of Indian Affairs to recognize a faction headed by Joe Kennedy as the legitimate tribal council. A copy of the decision is not yet posted online at http://www.ibiadecisions.com.
The Kennedy council has been fighting with the Dan Shoshone council over control of the tribe. Both factions have been moving forward with an off-reservation casino in Hesperia.
