The Shinnecock Nation of New York plans to file lawsuits claiming land worth billions of dollars in the Hamptons of Long Island.

The first lawsuit will claim 3,600 acres in the town of Southampton, including the golf course where the U.S. Open is held. The second will be much larger and include some of most expensive real estate in the country.

The tribe is recognized by the state and lives on an 800-acre reservation. The tribe's application for federal recognition is on the "ready" list at the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

The tribe is working with the Monteau & Peebles law firm and a public relations firm connected to Gov. George Pataki (R).
