Marquette University to restart search for nickname

Faced with intense opposition among students and alumni, Marquette University of Wisconsin announced on Wednesday it will restart the search for a new nickname.

The quest started when a board of trustees member suggesting bringing back the old "Warriors" name. Tribal leaders opposed the potential choice.

Controversy was avoided when the school went with "Gold." But an entirely new brouhaha erupted so the board of trustees announced the creation of a new committee to find a new name by July 1. However, bringing back the Warriors is "firmly off the table," Marquette president Robert A. Wild said.
