Navajo Nation President Joe Shirley Jr. is still deciding whether to sign a bill that bans same-sex marriages on the reservation but considers it an "intrusion in personal lives," a spokesperson said.
Shirley has previously said he opposes banning marriage though the Navajo Nation Council. He said he would support a tribal-wide referendum on the issue.
The council passed the same-sex marriage ban last week with no opposing votes but at least one delegate called it a form of discrimination.
