The Montana House is expected to vote this week on a bill to provide $6.1 million for the Indian Education for All Act.
The bill narrowly passed the House Appropriations Committee on Thursday. Every Republican except one voted against it.
The state's constitution requires public schools to teach about Indian history and culture. Lawmakers have until the fall to provide money to carry out the mandate under a decision from the Montana Supreme Court.
