Leaders and parents of the Narragansett Tribe met with public school administrators in Chariho, Rhode Island, to discuss a recent incident at a school dance.
A group of young members of the tribe were denied entry to Chariho High's Winter Ball last month. Junior Na'Keesha Brown said they were treated differently because of their race.
Tribal and school representatives didn't necessarily agree on what happened. But they are seeking ways to improve relations, such as sensitivity training for teachers, the inclusion of tribal history in the curriculum and a guidance program to help Native students.
