The Cobell v. Norton trust fund lawsuit and the fiscal year 2006 budget are the subject of two Congressional hearings this week.

On Wednesday, the House Resources Committee holds an oversight hearing on the Cobell case. The panel is expected to hear from representatives of the case and from tribal leaders.

Also on Wednesday, the Senate Indian Affairs Committee holds its first hearing under new chairman Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona). Among those scheduled to testify on the budget are Tex Hall, president of the National Congress of American Indians; Chester Carl, chairman of the National American Indian Housing Council; and Michael Liu, assistant secretary for public and Indian housing.
