O'odham councilor removed for alcohol incidents

A member of the Tohono O'odham Nation Legislative Council was removed from office on Thursday for two alcohol-related incidents.

Dennis Jose, who represented the Sells District, appeared at a hearing but didn't make a statement, The Arizona Daily Star reported. He was found guilty of "misconduct reflecting on the dignity and integrity of the Tohono O'odham government," the paper said. The vote against him was 18-4.

In September, Jose received a suspended sentence for drinking and transporting beer on a part of the reservation where alcohol is illegal. Later that month, he was fined $975 and spend three days in jail after pleading guilty to a DUI charge in Tucson.
