Osage Nation moves to establish government

The Osage Nation of Oklahoma is moving to establish a new government.

The tribe held a referendum on November 19. Tribal members voted on 16 questions that will shape their new legislative, executive and judicial branches of government.

According to The Oklahoman, tribal members voted to allow all adult Osages to participate in tribal elections. Previously, only Osages with mineral rights, or "headrights," could vote.

Tribal members also voted against a blood quantum requirement, the paper said.
