McCain in California to support Schwarzenegger
Tuesday, October 11, 2005
Sen. John McCain (R-Arizona) was in California on Monday to support fellow Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger's campaign initiatives. McCain, the chairman of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee, endorsed four ballot initiatives that Schwarzenegger is championing. "He's got principle, he's got determination and he's got guts to take on the special interests," McCain said of the governor. McCain was challenged by a reporter for criticizing former governor Gray Davis, a Democrat, for seeking to raise $26 million, while Schwarzenegger has raised more than $36 million this year. "I haven't been silent," McCain said when asked about his comments. Schwarzenegger has called tribes "special interests" in his bid to renegotiate gaming compacts. McCain has been seeking changes to the $19 billion Indian gaming industry, such as the clarification between Class II and Class III games, in a way that would help Schwarzenegger. Get the Story:
