Now that Congress is back in session after its August break, the Senate Indian Affairs Committee has three hearings on its schedule for the month of September.
On Wednesday, September 21, the committee will hold an oversight hearing on Indian gaming. This is the committee's sixth hearing on gaming or gaming-related topics, not including the hearing on the tribal lobbying scandal.
On Wednesday, September 28, the committee holds a hearing on Indian housing. This will be the committee's first on the subject for the 109th congressional session.
On Thursday, September 29, the committee is holding a hearing entitled "Indian water rights settlement policy effects on the Duck Valley Reservation proposed settlement agreement." The Shoshone-Paiute Tribes reside on the Duck Valley Reservation in Nevada.
