Tribes blast development at sacred site in Oregon

Leaders of the Nez Perce Tribe of Idaho and the Confederated Umatilla Tribes of Oregon held a protest on August 31 against the development near a tribal cemetery in Oregon

Tribal leaders said the 62-acre Marr Ranch is sacred ground. It is located near the gravesite of Old Chief Joseph. The site is also the start of the Nez Perce National Historic Trail.

The owners of the ranch plan to build housing on the land. A recent bulldozing prompted the tribes to hold a press conference to oppose development.
