A judge in Utah says the Oglala Sioux Tribe of South Dakota will have a role in a child welfare case.

The tribe filed a motion to intervene in the "Baby Janie" case because the mother, Darla Marie Woundedhead, was a tribal member. Woundedhead was murdered when she was seven months pregnant.

The tribe doesn't want jurisdiction, an attorney said, but only seeks to participate. The judge said the tribe will be included in future proceedings.

Four people have been charged in connection with Woundedhead's murder at a motel in Salt Lake City.
