Arrests made in murder of Oglala Sioux woman

Police in Salt Lake City arrested two men in connection with the murder of a pregnant woman who was a member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe.

Darla Marie Woundedhead, 30, was shot in the chest on August 18. She died after being taken to a hospital, where doctors were able to save her baby. "Janie" is in extremely critical condition and was born two months early with cocaine, opiates and barbiturates in her blood.

Police said Woundedhead was killed in a drug deal. Lawrence Valdez, 24, and his half-brother Robert Collins, 18, Kerri Armant, 32, and 18-year-old Andrea Martinez have been charged with her death. Armant allegedly ordered the shooting that killed Woundedhead.

A man has come forward claiming to be the father of the baby. The Oglala Sioux Tribe is seeking a role in the case.
