The Schaghticoke Tribal Nation of Connecticut is in court over a dispute with the backer of its bid for federal recognition.
The tribe received a final determination in favor of recognition in January 2004. Shortly after, Subway Restaurants owner Fred DeLuca said he poured $12 million into the effort through an entity called the Eastlander Group.
The tribe and the group are supposed to make decisions together but they are not in agreement over how to spend the next round of money. According to The Waterbury Republican American, the tribe wants a budget of $3.7 million while the group wants $2.4 million.
