Police officers blasted for 'racist' e-mail

The acting chief of police in Edmonton, Alberta, has ordered an investigation into a "racist, discriminatory and disgusting" e-mail that reportedly describes 10 ways to deal with Native people.

Chief Daryl da Costa would not disclose the contents of the e-mail. But is existence was noted in an internal memo obtained by The Edmonton Journal.

"An e-mail was recently brought to my attention where the author advanced his theory on how aboriginals should be dealt with by police," the memo stated. "The e-mail was racist, discriminatory, disgusting and offensive and I have had to direct yet another investigation into the actions of our members."

The message was circulated among police officers after one had been suspended for allegedly assaulting inner-city residents, the Journal reported.
