David Lister, a 16-year-old member of the Navajo Nation, is hoping a bone marrow transplant will help defeat leukemia.
But with only 67,000 Native Americans registered with the National Marrow Donor Program, Lister faces a long wait. He is optimistic a donor will be found so he can attend the Institute of American Indian Arts college in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Lister was diagnosed with leukemia in March 2004. His family is holding blood drives on the Navajo Nation.
