The Passamaquoddy Tribe of Maine announced on Thursday its intent to build an aviation and aerospace maintenance and manufacturing plant.
The tribe has formed a partnership with Aviation and Aerospace Management, a Florida company, to develop a business plan and line up investors for the $20 million project. The tribe believes the plant could create 2,000 jobs.
Maine tribes are increasingly looking for ways to develop their economies after their attempt to legalize gaming was rejected by state voters. The Passamaquoddy Tribe has proposed a controversial natural gas terminal.
