Murkowski maintains lead over Knowles in Alaska

Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) maintained a six-point lead over Democrat Tony Knowles as results from Tuesday's heated election continued to pour in.

Murkowski was pleased with the results, based on 80 percent of precincts reporting. Knowles, however, would not concede until the votes are counted.

Murkowski was appointed to the Senate seat vacated by her father, Gov. Frank Murkowski (R). She took his place on the Senate Indian Affairs Committee.

Knowles, a former governor, won praise for his decision to drop an appeal of the Katie John subsistence rights case.
