BIA to hold public hearing on tribe's oil refinery

The Bureau of Indian Affairs will hold a public hearing November 9 on a proposed oil refinery on the Fort Berthold Reservation in North Dakota.

The Mandan, Hidatsa and Arikara Nation want to open the refinery on 470 acres within the reservation. But since the land is not currently held in trust, the BIA prepared a draft Environmental Impact Statement of the project's potential impact on the land.

The land is currently subject to county taxes. The county is opposing trust status.
