Alaska Natives called for greater law enforcement services at a forum on rural justice issues.
Speakers at the forum said the state hasn't hired enough officers for the village public safety officer program. They said Alaska State Troopers take too long to respond to calls for assistance.
The forum was sponsored by the Alaska Federation of Natives and Alaska Inter-Tribal Council. Members of the new Alaska Rural Justice and Law Enforcement Commission, a panel of state, federal and Alaska Natives, attended as part of their work on a rural justice system.
